TENS Units

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (T.E.N.S.) systems, also known as TENS Units, are designed to relieve both acute and persistent pain without shots, drugs or narcotics. They send gentle electrical impulses through the skin to the nerves to suppress pain by scrambling the pain signals before they reach the brain. A "TENS unit" is a pocket size, portable, battery-operated device that sends electrical impulses to certain parts of the body to block pain signals. The electrical currents produced are mild, but can prevent pain messages from being transmitted to the brain and may raise the level of endorphins (natural pain killers produced by the brain).
